One day in art class while I was lost in the flow of my oil painting, my Art History teacher, cruising in to see what our class was up to, walked up to me and said, “I don’t know why you waste your time painting. You’re a writer.”

As much as I could’ve been offended-after all, I thought I was a pretty good artist-I knew she was right. I have always been a storyteller. As an only child, I spent hours getting lost in books, and when I’d read them all, I created my own worlds. Writing became my way of capturing moments in time and preserving them the way that I thought they should have happened.

These days, my head is constantly buzzing with ideas, each one begging to be put onto the page. My stories are filled with emotional ups and downs, quiet revelations, and the messy beauty of growth. They don’t let go until I sit down, fingers on the keyboard, and let the magic unfold-and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
